Rayagada: A man was allegedly attacked by his son, who slit his throat with a blade following a family dispute at D Pendili village under Gudari police limits in Rayagada district in the early hours of Thursday, police said.
The incident took place around 2.30 am when the victim was reportedly asleep at home. Villagers came to know about the incident around 6.30 am and alerted the family.
The injured man was rushed to the Gudari Community Health Centre by his son-in-law Laba Palaka and his wife in an ambulance. His condition was stated to be critical.
Gudari Inspector-in-Charge Bishwabandhini Bag reached the health centre after being informed about the incident. The victim received first aid and seven stitches were administered to his throat, following which the bleeding was brought under control.
As the local health centre lacked adequate facilities to treat his critical condition, the victim was subsequently shifted to the Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, Gudari police station SI Shyamsundar and other personnel visited the spot and began an investigation.
Police have apprehended the accused son and are questioning him at the police station. Inspector-in-Charge Bag said a case has been registered in connection with the incident and the accused will be forwarded to the Gunupur court.
