Bhubaneswar: At least one person was killed and seven others critically injured after a speeding Scorpio SUV allegedly rammed into ten vehicles on a busy road in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday evening, reports said.
According to eyewitnesses, the black Scorpio (OD07BG1777) first hit a two-wheeler near Nuagaon Chhak. Despite locals chasing the vehicle, the SUV continued at high speed, hitting nine more vehicles before crashing into a road divider near the main entrance of SUM Hospital, bringing its run to an end.
Angry locals reportedly caught hold of the driver and assaulted him before handing him over to the police.
An eyewitness claimed that four people, including the driver, were travelling in the SUV and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. While the driver was apprehended, the other three occupants allegedly fled the scene.
Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Saravana Vivek M visited the spot and said an investigation had been initiated. Further details would emerge as the probe progresses, he added.
