Bhubaneswar: A day before the student union elections, Balangir Police on Wednesday arrested Suman Nanda, president of the district unit of Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD), on charges of abducting a student.
According to reports, Nanda was detained by Laxmijore police soon after the “Why I Stand For” programme concluded in the college. He was later produced before court under tight security.
Police said the arrest was made in connection with an alleged student abduction case, which has triggered tension in the campus amid the high drama surrounding the polls over the last two days.
Further details regarding the charges are awaited.
