Bhubaneswar: A court in Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district has sentenced a 41-year-old man to two years in jail for cheating a farmer of Rs 38,000 in the name of installing solar panels.

Sandeep Pattanayak was convicted by Judicial Magistrate First Class, Paralakhemundi, Suvankar Mohanty. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 40,000 on him, with an additional three months imprisonment in case of default.

The case was proved after examination of eight witnesses, public prosecutor Rajesh Kumar Mishra said.

As per the prosecution, Pattanayak had collected Rs 38,000 online in advance from a farmer at Ramagiri about four months ago, promising installation of solar panels under the SOA CSR fund subsidy scheme, and then duped him.
