Bhubaneswar: Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra on Thursday reviewed the preparedness of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) for Durga Puja, directing officials to ensure adequate sanitation, fire safety and essential civic services during the festivities.
At a virtual meeting convened by the Housing and Urban Development Department, the Minister stressed the need for clean and safe public spaces, proper drainage and uninterrupted delivery of civic amenities.
In view of the forecast rain associated with a low-pressure system, he urged ULBs to take preventive measures to minimise waterlogging and ensure the smooth discharge of rainwater.
The review also covered fire safety at Puja pandals and public places, safe drinking water supply, repair of potholes and damaged roads, and proper functioning of streetlights.
The Minister directed ULBs to coordinate with relevant departments and agencies to ensure timely responses to emergencies. District-level control rooms will be set up for real-time monitoring, coordination and prompt action during the festive period.
“Public safety and cleanliness must remain our highest priorities,” Mahapatra said, calling for proactive and coordinated efforts to ensure safe and hassle-free celebrations.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department Usha Padhee and Director of Municipal Administration Arindam Dakua attended the meeting.
