Bhubaneswar: As India gears up for the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon (VDHM) 2026, the spirit of running for a larger cause is gaining momentum beyond the national capital. Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has recorded over 540 participations across its operations in Odisha and Chhattisgarh through employee-led fitness initiatives supporting the marathon’s flagship #RunForZeroHunger campaign. Bringing together employees from Jharsuguda, BALCO, Lanjigarh and Mines through walkathons, Zumba sessions and fitness drives, the company has reinforced its commitment to tackling hunger and malnutrition while promoting employee wellbeing and community participation.
Guided by the principle of ‘1 KM = 1 Poshan Pack = 1 Hunger Fed’, the campaign connects physical fitness with the cause of child nutrition. Every kilometre covered under the initiative contributes towards providing nutritional support through the Anil Agarwal Foundation, transforming individual efforts into collective action towards building a healthier, better-nourished India.
Speaking on the initiative, Rajesh Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “At Vedanta Aluminium, we believe that our responsibility extends beyond manufacturing to creating a meaningful difference in society. The Run for Zero Hunger movement brings together the spirit of fitness, compassion and collective responsibility towards addressing one of India’s most pressing challenges, child malnutrition. It is encouraging to witness our employees across operations embrace this cause with such enthusiasm. Every step taken represents our shared commitment to nurturing healthier communities and contributing towards a stronger, more inclusive India.”
The enthusiasm for the movement was reflected across Vedanta Aluminium’s operations, where employees came together with a shared purpose extending beyond personal fitness. At Jharsuguda, 120 employees participated in a walkathon, alongside an energetic Zumba session, while BALCO witnessed over 100 participants joining the cause. The momentum extended to the company’s Mines operations, where Zumba sessions and walkathons recorded 186 participations. At Lanjigarh, a micro-marathon fitness drive brought together over 50 participants, complemented by a walkathon involving 91 members. Together, these efforts demonstrated how a shared commitment to wellbeing can bring employees across different locations and functions together for a meaningful social cause.
This collective spirit builds on Vedanta Aluminium’s longstanding association with the Run for Zero Hunger movement. In 2022, employees and business partners collectively clocked over 7.2 lakh kilometres, contributing an equivalent number of nutritious meals for underprivileged children through the campaign. Further strengthening this legacy, BALCO emerged as the top-performing business unit in Vedanta’s Run for Zero Hunger Challenge, with participants collectively covering more than 1.5 million kilometres in the latest edition. These milestones underscore the company’s sustained commitment to translating employee participation into meaningful nutritional support for communities.
Beyond the marathon, the initiative reflects Vedanta Aluminium’s broader approach to social responsibility, where employee wellbeing and community development go hand in hand. By bringing its workforce together around a common cause, the company continues to strengthen a culture of collective action and shared responsibility.
As VDHM 2026 brings together runners from across India, Vedanta Aluminium’s participation reflects the growing role of collective efforts in addressing larger societal challenges. By connecting fitness with nutritional wellbeing, the company continues to contribute towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat, where healthier communities, improved nutrition and inclusive development form the foundation of a stronger nation.
