Koraput: Koraput MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka has opposed the proposed move to bring Jeypore town under the newly proposed Nabarangpur Postal Division, urging Union communications minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia to intervene and retain the town under the existing Koraput Postal Division.
In a letter to the Union minister dated October 19, Ulaka supported the creation of a separate Nabarangpur Postal Division to improve administrative efficiency and postal services but raised concerns over the proposed transfer of Jeypore from the Koraput division.
Referring to a proposal dated September 14, 2026, submitted by the chief postmaster general of the Odisha Circle for the reorganisation of the Koraput and Kalahandi Postal Divisions, the MP said shifting Jeypore to Nabarangpur while retaining the rest of Koraput district under the existing division could fragment the district’s postal jurisdiction.
Ulaka said Jeypore is a major administrative, commercial and educational centre of Koraput district and shares longstanding historical and institutional links with Koraput. The proposed change, he cautioned, could lead to administrative complications and inconvenience the public.
Questioning the rationale behind the proposed transfer, the MP said the restructuring would reduce the workload of the Koraput Postal Division from 2.54 to 1.21, according to the proposal. He argued that the figures did not appear to establish a compelling administrative reason for shifting Jeypore to another postal division.
Ulaka urged Scindia to direct the Department of Posts to revise the proposal and retain Jeypore under the Koraput Postal Division while proceeding with the establishment of the new Nabarangpur division.
“I strongly urge your intervention to direct the Department of Posts to revise the proposal and retain Jeypore town under the Koraput Postal Division, while proceeding with the establishment of the new Nabarangpur Postal Division,” the letter stated.
The MP also sought the minister’s intervention before the proposal receives final approval.
