Raurkela: Two people, including a woman and her four-year-old son, were killed and seven others seriously injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a car at Kaleiposhkata under Lahunipada police station limits in Sundaragada district on Vijaya Dasami, Wednesday.
The injured include two children aged below 10 years and a six-month-old girl.
According to preliminary information, the car was travelling from Raurkela towards Kaleiposh, while the truck was heading from Barsuan towards Rajamunda when the collision occurred near Kaleiposhkata.
The deceased woman was identified as Magdalii Kerketa. The car was reportedly carrying members of two sisters’ families.
All the victims were initially taken to Lahunipada hospital. The seven injured were later shifted to Raurkela Government Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were kept at Lahunipada hospital.
Police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the accident. The truck driver allegedly fled the scene after the collision.
