Bhubaneswar: Cyclone Arnab has weakened and turned into a deep depression.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the deep depression is centred 60 km south of Malkangiri. It is moving northwards at a speed of 15 km per hour. The system is likely to weaken further into a depression in the next few hours and into a well-marked low pressure area by this evening.
Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over south Odisha districts. Gusty winds with speed reaching 60-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph are also likely to prevail over the region.
On the other hand, even as cyclonic storm Arnab continues, a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining areas in next 24 hours, according to IMD prediction.
The weather system is likely to develop under influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over south Andaman Sea and neighbourhood extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
