Bhubaneswar: Odisha has stepped up efforts to strengthen flood protection, improve irrigation infrastructure and accelerate project implementation, with technical advisory committees clearing a total of 85 proposals at two separate meetings held under the chairmanship of Engineer-in-Chief Dillip Kumar Rout.
At the 158th Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting of the State Flood Control Board, held in hybrid mode, 38 proposals, including 31 flood control works and seven drainage projects, were discussed. The proposals, received from various drainage divisions across the state, involve an estimated investment of ₹653.99 crore.
The discussions focused on strengthening river embankments, safeguarding vulnerable and flood-prone areas and improving drainage systems to enhance the state’s preparedness against floods.
The Department has held seven Flood TAC meetings so far during the financial year 2026-27, reflecting an emphasis on expediting the appraisal and approval of flood management projects.
Separately, the 162nd Technical Advisory Committee meeting on irrigation projects was also convened in hybrid mode under Rout’s chairmanship. The committee approved 47 proposals covering major in-stream storage structures and related infrastructure works.
The proposed projects are expected to improve irrigation efficiency, reinforce the existing water distribution network and promote equitable utilisation of water resources across the state.
