Bhubaneswar: Ajay Kumar Garanaik, Special Land Acquisition Officer of Sambalpur-Talcher Railway Project was arrested by Odisha Vigilance for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5.10 lakh from a landowner for releasing compensation.
According to Vigilance, Garanaik had demanded the bribe from the complainant for release of Rs 84,62,288 towards compensation amount for land acquired for the railway project and to show favour in future during compensation for the third rail line project. The officer was caught and has been arrested.
He is being forwarded to the Court of Special Vigilance Judge of Sambalpur today. In this connection, Sambalpur Vigilance P.S. Case No.20/2026 U/s 7 P.C. (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against him. Further investigation is underway.
