Garg held a meeting with all District Collectors, State Relief Commissioner and DG Fire Services regarding the cyclone’s impact and preparedness.
Following the meeting, the Chief Secretary informed the mediapersons that so far no impact of the cyclone has been witnessed in Odisha. While drizzle is being experienced in some places, the situation remains normal. However, as per advance preparedness, people from vulnerable areas were evacuated to cyclone shelters, she said. The situation is being monitored through various control rooms.
“We reviewed the situation with all District Collectors after Cyclone Murasu made landfall in Andhra Pradesh. Collectors have informed that there is no major impact in Odisha so far, except light drizzle in some areas. No wind activity has been reported. However, we were fully prepared and had already evacuated people from vulnerable areas to cyclone shelters as a precautionary measure,” said Garg.
On restoration work in Ganjam and Gajapati districts affected by previous heavy rain triggered by cyclone Arnab, she said restoration work is in full swing. Relief package announced earlier is also being distributed. At landslide sites, restoration work was halted yesterday due to rain, but resumed this morning.
Meanwhile, the Central team which has come to assess the damage will visit Gajapati district today and Ganjam district tomorrow. After that, a meeting will be held with the Central team, informed Anu Garg.
