Surrendered Maoist Found Dead in Hazaribag Jail

New Delhi: Chota Shyamlal Dehri, a 30-year-old former Maoist, was found dead in his cell at the Hazaribag Open Jail on Saturday. Dehri’s body was discovered hanging during the morning headcount when an inmate was reported missing.

The jail authorities informed the police after doctors declared him dead. According to Hazaribag Central Jail’s Superintendent Jitendra Kumar, Dehri had surrendered in Dumka in 2020 and was later transferred to the open jail. Eight cases were registered against him.

Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Dehri’s death.
