New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and IMF Deputy Managing Director Nigel Clarke discussed India’s evolving growth trajectory, global economic shifts and the need for continued macroeconomic cooperation during their meeting in New Delhi on Monday.
Clarke, who is on a visit to India, met FM Sitharaman to review India-IMF relations and discuss developments shaping the global and Indian economies. The discussions also covered India’s trade agenda, changes in the global trading system and the implications of recently concluded bilateral trade agreements.
The Finance Ministry said both sides emphasised the importance of sustained India-IMF engagement to strengthen macroeconomic cooperation, support sound economic policies and contribute to greater regional and global economic resilience.

During the meeting, FM Sitharaman and Clarke also discussed India’s role in supporting the South Asia Regional Training and Technical Assistance Center (SARTTAC). The two sides appreciated India’s contribution to the institution and its role in strengthening capacity-building and technical cooperation in the region.
“They also discussed the outlook for India and the global economy, including India’s evolving growth trajectory and the implications of ongoing shifts in the global economic environment, including India’s trade agenda and developments in the global trading system including recently concluded bilateral trade agreements,” it stated.
The meeting came amid significant shifts in the global economic environment, including changes in international trade patterns and continuing geopolitical uncertainties. The two sides exchanged views on how these developments could affect the outlook for India and the global economy.
Clarke acknowledged India’s economic performance, resilience and growth track record in the prevailing global environment. He also recognised the government’s efforts towards fiscal consolidation and the support measures undertaken in the aftermath of the West Asian crisis.
