13 Foreign Nationals Killed, Over 20 Injured In Malviya Nagar Fire Incident: MEA

New Delhi: As many as 13 foreign nationals were killed and around 22 others injured in the tragic Malviya Nagar fire incident in Delhi this week, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Friday, stating that Indian authorities are in touch with the concerned embassies and is facilitating all necessary assistance, including the required documentation and medical support.

Addressing a weekly media briefing in New Delhi, the MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the deceased foreign nationals included four from Nigeria, three from Kyrgyzstan, and one each from Mozambique, Liberia, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Congo, and Iraq.

“As per the available information, we have 13 foreign nationals among those who have died in the Delhi fire incident. They are from Mozambique (one person), Nigeria (four), Liberia (one), Kyrgyzstan (three), Uzbekistan (one), Bangladesh (one), Congo (one), and Iraq (one). So, 13 people have passed away. We are in touch with all their embassies, and we are trying to help them in the manner that they want,” Jaiswal told reporters.

“We are intervening with local authorities for all the paperwork that is required, as well as with the hospital authorities wherever help is required, any medical assistance is required. Around 22 foreign nationals have also been injured in this particular incident,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed distress over the tragic Malviya Nagar fire incident and announced financial assistance of Rs two lakh to the families of the deceased.

The Prime Minister also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and announced assistance of Rs 50,000 for them.

At least 21 people were killed, and dozens others injured after a massive fire broke out at the multi-storied Lemon Green Restaurant in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning, officials said.

In a statement on X, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced, “The loss of lives due to a fire incident in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, is tragic. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected.”

“An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” he added.
