15 Gelatin Sticks, Over 50 Detonators: Cache Of Explosives Recovered In Nagpur’s Residential Area

Nagpur: A large cache of explosives was recovered from a residential locality near CA Road in Nagpur on Tuesday, raising serious security concerns in one of the city’s most sensitive zones, officials said.

According to the police, the explosive materials were found inside a bag lying in a small garden behind a house near Dosar Bhavan Chowk.

The discovery came to light early in the morning after members of the family residing at the house noticed cartridges protruding from the bag and promptly alerted the authorities.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Madane confirmed that the family had informed the police about the suspicious items, leading to immediate action by security agencies.

Responding swiftly, teams from the local police and the bomb disposal squad reached the spot and sealed off the entire area as a precautionary measure.

A thorough search operation was initiated to ensure that no additional explosive materials were present in the vicinity, while forensic experts were deployed to closely examine the recovered items.

During the operation, officials recovered 15 gelatin sticks (cartridges), approximately 50 to 58 detonators, and eight connectors. All the materials were safely seized and later shifted to an undisclosed location for detailed analysis, police said.

“The family spotted suspicious material this morning and immediately informed us. When we conducted searches here, we found 15 cartridges in their garden and on further searches around 58 detonators were found there… We are investigating the surroundings for more suspicious items, and CCTV recordings are also being checked,” Madane told reporters.

Preliminary findings suggest that the explosives may have been stored at the site for nearly one-and-a-half months, raising further concerns about how they remained undetected for such a duration.

Investigations are underway and further details are awaited.
