New Delhi: Days after a teenager was shot dead at an eatery in southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime Branch), Harsh Indora, said that formalities are underway to ensure that the main accused in the case, who is a minor, is tried as an adult in the court.

A 17-year-old student, identified as Sai, was critically injured after being shot at a restaurant in Amar Colony area when he allegedly objected to a group of young men brushing past his chair. He died on Monday after battling for his life in a hospital for six days.

According to the police, three of the accused have been apprehended while a search is on for a fourth one, in whose name the vehicle was registered.

Speaking to IANS, DCP Indora said: “The main accused who shot at the victim, is a minor and is in our custody.”

He added that a quarrel broke out regarding a seating arrangement at the hotel.

“The argument turned aggressive and the accused opened fire on the teenager. He got shot with two bullets on his head,” he said.

The DCP added that along with the minor accused, there were two other boys who fled after the incident.

He said that the minor was apprehended within 24 hours of the crime. The other two accused were arrested on May 30.

DCP Indora also mentioned about the presence of a fourth accused, in whose name the car was registered.

“Search for the fourth accused is underway. Hopefully, he will be caught soon,” he asserted.

He stressed that the police have started formalities to ensure that the main accused, who is a minor, is tried as an adult in the court.

The senior police official also said that the weapon and the vehicle allegedly used in the crime, have been seized.

“Investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the weapon,” he added.

Meanwhile, the victim’s grandmother appealed for justice, saying that the accused’s entire family should be punished.

Earlier, Sai’s father said that the culprit should face the same fate as criminals allegedly encountered by the police in Uttar Pradesh under the administration of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Reiterating his father’s demand, the teenager’s aunt urged that the accused should be “encountered”.

“Our entire family is broken. We appeal that justice should be served and the accused should be punished,” she told reporters.
