New Delhi: The Indian Army signed an agreement with a group of educational institutions in Karnataka for special tuition fee concessions to eligible wards of serving and retired personnel, an official said on Friday.

In a message on X, the Indian Army said, “The Indian Army has signed an MoU with Guru Nanak Group of Institutions, Bidar (Karnataka) to enhance educational opportunities for the wards of Indian Army personnel and support their aspirations for a brighter future.”

“Under the MoU, the institution will provide special tuition fee concessions to eligible wards of serving and retired Indian Army personnel, including enhanced support for the wards of personnel who have made the supreme sacrifice and those with disabilities,” it said.

The initiative reflects the Indian Army’s continued commitment to the welfare, education and well-being of its personnel and their families, said the statement.

In another development, Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth felicitated three distinguished Veterans with the Yoddha Seva Samman during the Retiring Officers Seminar in New Delhi, in recognition of their continued service to Veterans, society and youth after retirement.

One of the distinguished Veterans, Lt Col BMS Bains (Retd), was honoured for dedicating himself to the welfare of Veterans and their families in Hoshiarpur and adjoining regions, assisting over 70,000 Veterans and families with pension and legal issues and facilitating ECHS access for over 52,000 pre-ECHS retirees, said a statement.

He also contributed to social welfare through initiatives supporting the underprivileged and specially-abled children.

The other honoured Veteran, Nb Sub Khagen Chandra Das (Retd), was appreciated for working tirelessly for Veterans and Veernaris in remote areas of Tamulpur, personally reaching out to over 250 isolated Veterans and strengthening their access to welfare agencies and institutional support.

His efforts have benefited a Veteran community of over 270 members, fostering dignity, confidence and camaraderie, said the statement.

Hav Anup Kumar Mahato (Retd) was felicitated by the Army Chief for devoting himself to empowering underprivileged youth across West Bengal and Jharkhand.

Through the Purulia Aim Physical Institute (PAPI), established in 2019, he provides free physical training and guidance to aspirants preparing for careers in the Armed Forces and other competitive services, enabling deserving youth to pursue employment and a better future, said the statement.
