Guwahati: The Red Shield Division under the Indian Army’s Spear Corps organised an Agniveer Preparedness Program in Assam’s Charaideo district on Wednesday to motivate and mentor local youth aspiring to join the armed forces, officials said.

The programme was conducted at Borhat in collaboration with the district administration and witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 200 students, including 56 girls, officials added.

The initiative was aimed at guiding aspiring candidates on various aspects of recruitment under the Agniveer scheme, including physical fitness, written examination preparation and the overall selection process for entry into the Indian Army.

During the event, Army personnel interacted with students and explained the physical standards, endurance requirements and examination patterns necessary for Agniveer recruitment.

Participants were also briefed on the importance of discipline, dedication, leadership qualities and mental preparedness required for a successful career in the armed forces.

Officials said the programme provided students with an opportunity to better understand the recruitment process and the level of preparation needed to compete effectively.

Special emphasis was laid on encouraging youth from rural and remote areas to explore opportunities in national service and contribute towards nation-building through the armed forces.

The participation of a significant number of girls in the programme was also seen as a positive sign of growing interest among young women in pursuing careers in defence services.

According to Army officials, the outreach initiative forms part of the Indian Army’s continuing efforts to engage with local communities and inspire the younger generation across the Northeast.

“The students were sensitised to the importance of discipline, dedication and leadership qualities, while encouraging them to pursue opportunities for service to the nation through the Armed Forces,” an official statement said.

The initiative was appreciated by the district administration and members of the local community for promoting youth empowerment and creating awareness about career opportunities in the Army.

Officials added that such programmes also help strengthen civil-military relations and encourage greater participation of local youth in national service.

The Indian Army has been organising similar outreach and awareness initiatives in several districts of the region to guide and mentor aspiring candidates preparing for defence recruitment.
