New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Munitions India Limited (MIL) Executive Director Anil Kumar and two others, including a private defence company promoter, in a bribery case involving allegations of illegal gratification in exchange for official favours, an agency statement said on Wednesday.

According to the CBI, the two other arrested accused have been identified as M/s SMPP Ltd CEO and Director/Promoter Ashish Kansal, and Anil Kumar’s brother B. Harshavardhan,

The arrests were made on Tuesday, the CBI statement said.

According to the agency, the case was registered on October 12 against the public servant on allegations that he, while serving as Executive Director at Munitions India Limited in Pune, had allegedly entered into a criminal arrangement with certain private contractors and vendors to demand and accept illegal gratification in return for extending official favours.

During searches at the premises of Anil Kumar in Pune, the CBI recovered Rs 1.73 crore in cash.

Further searches were conducted at premises linked to the accused in Mysuru, Bengaluru and Delhi, leading to the recovery of approximately Rs 50 lakh in cash and incriminating documents, the agency officials said.

The total cash recovery in the searches thus stands at approximately Rs 2.23 crore, the agency told the media.

The CBI is investigating the alleged nexus between the public servant and private contractors/vendors and the circumstances under which illegal gratification was allegedly demanded and accepted for extending official favours.

Munitions India Limited is a defence public sector undertaking involved in the manufacture of ammunition and explosives. The agency said the investigation into the case was continuing, and it is hopeful of getting more crucial details pertaining to the case.
