Jaipur: A Special CBI Court in Jaipur sentenced a former official of the Oriental Bank of Commerce to seven years’ Rigorous Imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 1.25 lakh, for causing a loss of over Rs 12 lakh in three loan accounts, an official said on Friday.

Murari Lal Meena, the then Special Assistant, Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC), Sheosinghpura, Lalsot, Dausa, was sentenced to Rigorous Imprisonment by the Special Court on Thursday after being held guilty of fraud, corruption and conspiracy with loan applicants in 2019, the CBI said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the case on February 1, 2019, based on a complaint lodged by the bank alleging that Meena, Special Assistant, OBC, abused his official position by dishonestly issuing unauthorised ‘No Dues’ certificates.

The complaint said that Meena facilitated the release of mortgaged securities despite outstanding loan liabilities and caused a wrongful loss of Rs 12.14 lakh to the bank across three loan accounts, the CBI said.

After completion of investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet on September 30, 2019, against the accused. Charges against the accused were framed on October 12, 2022.

The Special Court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the accused; accordingly, the CBI said.

In a separate case related to a bank official, the CBI filed a charge sheet against the owner of a Kashmir-based firm and a Deputy Manager of Axis Bank in connection with a digital arrest scam in which a Delhi senior citizen was defrauded of Rs 1.6 crore.

The accused named in the charge sheet are Umer Iqbal, proprietor of M/s Himalayan Enterprises, Pulwama, and Umer Ahmad Dar, Deputy Manager at Axis Bank.

According to the CBI, the victim was targeted by fraudsters who posed as law enforcement and judicial authorities and placed video calls to her, falsely claiming that she was under investigation.

The accused extorted Rs 1.6 crore from the senior citizen through the so-called “digital arrest” scheme.

Following the Supreme Court order, CBI took up the case from the Delhi Police. The agency registered the case in January 2026.
