New Delhi: The Centre has notified the appointment of judicial officer Gurvinder Pal Singh as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court, nearly a month after the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his elevation along with seven other judicial officers.

In a post on X, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal said that the President, in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India and after consultation with the Chief Justice of India (CJI), was pleased to appoint Singh as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court.

The appointment comes after the Supreme Court Collegium, at its meeting held on September 10, recommended eight judicial officers for appointment as judges of the Delhi High Court.

The recommended judicial officers were Gurvinder Pal Singh, Nivedita Anil Sharma, Nisha Sahay Saxena, Sanjay Sharma-I, Bharat Parashar, Dr Aditi Choudhary, Dinesh Bhatt, and Arun Bhardwaj.

The Centre had subsequently notified the appointments of seven of the eight judicial officers on September 19, including Nivedita Sharma and Saxena as judges and Sanjay Sharma, Parashar, Choudhary, Bhatt, and Bhardwaj as additional judges of the Delhi High Court.

Singh was the only one among the eight recommended names whose appointment was not included in that notification. His appointment has now been cleared by the Centre.

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Law and Justice on Monday also cleared the elevation of Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal, Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Telangana High Court Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh as judges of the Supreme Court. The appointments followed the Collegium’s recommendation made on September 28 for their elevation to the apex court.
