Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure the safety and well-being of every citizen as the state faces the dual challenge of floods and drought due to irregular rainfall.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, he emphasised that protecting farmers’ crops and securing livelihoods remain the government’s top priorities.
The Chief Minister stressed that agricultural activities must not be disrupted in districts with below-normal rainfall. He ordered maximum use of canals, reservoirs, and government tube wells, along with real-time monitoring of sowing and irrigation.
Joint action plans by the agriculture and irrigation departments were mandated to provide immediate relief to farmers wherever sowing is threatened.
In flood-prone districts, CM Yogi directed that relief camps be fully prepared within three days, ensuring fresh food, clean water, medical facilities, and sanitation. Milk supplies for children and special care for women, elderly persons, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women were emphasised. Larger boats are to be arranged where necessary, with trained “Aapda Mitras” deployed extensively. District magistrates must personally monitor relief operations.
The Relief Commissioner’s office control room will remain operational 24 hours a day, with hourly updates sent to the Chief Minister’s office, the DGP office, and relief agencies. District-level dashboards will track the evolving situation.
Embankments are to be patrolled continuously, with vigilance against both natural erosion and possible sabotage by anti-social elements. The Chief Minister stressed timely relocation and vaccination of livestock to prevent seasonal diseases.
He also directed immediate housing support under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana for poor families affected by fire accidents, and ordered urban authorities to cover open manholes to prevent mishaps.
Officials reported that 42 villages across four districts are currently affected, with 332 people impacted. Relief operations include 1,412 flood outposts, 549 medical teams, 55 boats, and 1,096 shelters. Preparations have been completed in 44 flood-sensitive districts, with 1,694 shelters ready to accommodate over 5 lakh people, alongside 910 animal shelters.
CM Yogi also directed officials to continue river channelisation work to strengthen flood management and minimise risks of erosion and waterlogging.
He reiterated that safeguarding citizens, farmers, and livestock remains the government’s foremost responsibility.
