Bhubaneswar/Dhaka: At least seven people lost their lives in Bangladesh after Cyclone Sitrang battered parts of the densely-populated country late Monday night, said media reports.
The cyclone made landfall along the Chittagong-Barisal coast around 9:00 pm (8:30 pm IST). Thousands of people and livestock were evacuated and moved to the cyclone shelters.
Continuous heavy rain caused by cyclonic Sitrang in the capital and elsewhere across the country from Sunday night paralysed normal life. The rain also inundated some areas of the capital. A large part of the coastal region remained without electricity.
