Malkangiri: The bodies of the ten Chhattisgarh District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans and the driver (of the vehicle they were traveling by) who were killed in a landmine blast by Maoists in Aranpur of the neighbouring state on Wednesday were taken to Dantewada district hospital last night. After the post-mortem, the bodies are being taken to the district police parade ground.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and senior police and administrative officials of the state reached Dantewada at around 11.00 am on Thursday. Top cops of Chhattisgarh, including the DG of Chhattisgarh Police and the IG of Bastar, are present at the district police parade ground to pay their last respects to the slain jawans.
Family members of some jawans killed in the Maoist attack have reached the police ground where the scene is somber and full of grief and shock.
Expressing his grief and condolences to the jawans’ families, Chief Minister Baghel said the perpetrator of the crime would not be spared. “The government will take all steps to ensure that the death of the 10 DRG jawans does not go in vain. We will ensure that no jawan dies in this manner in the future,” he said.
Baghel also carried the caskets containing the bodies of the jawans on his shoulders.
Meanwhile, a team of CRPF jawans and officials reached the blast site on Thursday and renewed their search operation, IG Bastar P Sundarraj said.
