New Delhi: Aiming to improve institutional support for women and marginalised sections of society, the Delhi government-led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta appointed new heads and members of the Delhi Commission for Women and Delhi Minorities Commission, an official said on Sunday

In a message on X, Chief Minister’s Office said, “The Government of Delhi has appointed Lata Gupta as the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women and Shyam Bala, Malti Verma, Lata Sodhi, Sanrakshika Sharma Jha, and Renu Bhalla as Members.”

“The Delhi Commission for Women plays an important role in the safety of women, their respect, the protection of their rights, and their empowerment. These appointments will give new momentum to the Commission’s functioning, and access to justice, protection, and assistance for women will become even more effective,” said the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

In another development, the Delhi government appointed Nirmal Jain as the Chairman of the Delhi Minorities Commission and Kuldeep Singh and Mohammad Haroon as Members.

“The Government of Delhi is committed to the rights, dignity, and welfare of all sections of society. These appointments are an important step towards strengthening the rights, dignity, and welfare of all sections of society, as well as promoting social harmony and inclusive development,” said the CMO.

The top appointment in Delhi Commission for Women came close to the National Commission for Women (NCW) sharing information about its women helpline on social media.

In a message on its X handle, the NCW said, “The National Commission for Women has introduced a new Toll-Free Helpline Number 14490 to provide immediate assistance and support to women in distress.”

“The easy to remember number will facilitate timely grievance redressal and ensure that help is accessible to women across the country,” said the NCW.

On Saturday, NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar took part in a Leadership Development Training Programme for District Magistrates and District Superintendents of Police under ‘Catalysts for Change’ in Pune’s Lonavala.

“During the closing session, District Magistrates and District Superintendents of Police were urged to pay special attention to a 10-point action plan to ensure women’s safety, empowerment,” said Rahatkar in a message on social media.
