Delhi-NCR Braces For Heavy Rain As IMD Issues Fresh Monsoon Alert Across Several States

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a fresh weather advisory, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the country over the next few days as the southwest monsoon continues to remain active.

According to the IMD, widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is likely to affect several regions, including Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Assam, Meghalaya and other northeastern states.

Gujarat is expected to witness the most intense rainfall during this period, with some areas likely to experience extremely heavy showers.

The weather department attributed the active monsoon conditions to a low-pressure area over southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh. This system, along with the active monsoon trough and multiple cyclonic circulations, is expected to sustain widespread rainfall over northwest, central, western and northeastern India over the coming days.

In the national Capital, Delhi and adjoining NCR are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on Saturday.

The IMD has indicated that rainfall activity is expected to intensify over the next two to four days, with isolated places likely to experience heavy rain from July 27 onward.

Cloudy skies, humid conditions and temperatures close to seasonal averages are expected to persist.

Mumbai and the Konkan region are also likely to witness heavy rainfall, with isolated locations expected to receive very heavy showers.

Authorities have cautioned that waterlogging in low-lying areas and traffic congestion may occur as persistent monsoon activity continues along Maharashtra’s coastal belt.

In Gujarat, Ahmedabad and several surrounding districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated pockets likely to experience extremely heavy spells. The IMD has warned that intense rainfall could trigger localised flooding, waterlogging and disruptions to normal life in vulnerable areas.

Rajasthan is also expected to remain under the influence of the active weather system.

Jaipur and several districts in eastern Rajasthan are likely to receive heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy showers. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected across parts of the state.

The IMD has issued rain and thunderstorm warnings for multiple states, including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Gusty winds of up to 85 kmph are likely in some areas, prompting authorities to advise residents to remain cautious.

The department also warned that hilly regions could face landslide risks, while strong winds in eastern India may uproot trees and disrupt transport and power supply in affected areas.
