New Delhi: Delhi is likely to receive moderate rainfall on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for the national capital amid continued monsoon activity across the region.

The weather department has forecast a generally cloudy sky over Delhi and predicted that rainfall activity is likely to continue until August 10. The forecast comes after several parts of the city witnessed rain on Tuesday, bringing relief to residents from hot and humid weather conditions.

Among Delhi’s weather monitoring stations, Ayanagar recorded the highest rainfall during Tuesday’s spell, according to the IMD. The showers helped improve weather conditions temporarily, although humid conditions are expected to persist.

For Wednesday, the IMD has forecast moderate rainfall with a generally cloudy sky. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to remain near 24 degrees Celsius.

The yellow alert issued for Delhi advises residents to remain aware of changing weather conditions, as rainfall and thunderstorms may affect normal activities in some areas.

Meanwhile, the IMD on Tuesday issued district-wise nowcast warnings for several states, cautioning people about thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall and strong winds expected over the following two to three hours.

A red warning was issued for Punjab’s Patiala district, indicating the possibility of severe weather conditions requiring immediate precautions. The IMD forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds reaching around 60 kmph, and heavy rainfall exceeding 15 mm per hour in the district. Residents were advised to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the period of intense weather.

The weather agency also issued an orange warning for several districts across multiple states, where thunderstorms, lightning, winds ranging between 40 and 60 kmph, and moderate to heavy rainfall of 5-15 mm per hour or more were considered very likely.

In Punjab, the orange warning covered Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Sangrur and Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (SAS Nagar) districts. In Uttar Pradesh, districts under the warning included Amethi, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Fatehpur, Hardoi, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Lucknow, Pratapgarh, Raebareli and Unnao.

The IMD has advised people in affected areas to remain cautious, avoid open spaces during thunderstorms, and follow official weather updates as monsoon conditions remain active across several parts of northern India.
