Sofia: External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on Wednesday visited the National Historic Museum in Bulgaria’s Sofia.

Sharing pictures from his visit on X, EAM Jaishankar wrote, “Visited the National Historical Museum in Sofia today. Explored its remarkable collection of artifacts spanning millennia and gained a deeper appreciation of how Bulgaria has preserved the many facets of its rich history and cultural heritage.”

Earlier in the day, EAM Jaishankar arrived in Bulgaria on an official visit. During his visit to Sofia, EAM Jaishankar will hold talks with his counterpart and the leadership of Bulgaria.

Extending a warm welcome to EAM Jaishankar, the Indian Embassy in Bulgaria wrote on X, “Warm welcome by H.E. Ambassador Arun kumar Sahu along with Director General Mr. Petko Doykov and his delegation to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar as he arrives in Bulgaria on an official visit.”

After concluding his engagements in Bulgaria, EAM Jaishankar will visit Finland to attend the 14th edition of the Kultaranta Talks, on the theme of ‘A World in Transition: Global, Regional and Local Perspectives’. He will also hold talks with Finland leadership.

In April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Rumen Radev and his Progressive Bulgaria party on their decisive victory in the parliamentary elections while expressing readiness to further strengthen ties between both nations.

“Heartiest congratulations to Mr. Rumen Radev and his party Progressive Bulgaria, for their victory in the recently concluded parliamentary elections of Bulgaria. I look forward to working together to further strengthen the friendly and multifaceted ties between India and Bulgaria, as well as our broader cooperation in the region,” PM Modi wrote on X.

Ties between India and Bulgaria are longstanding, warm and friendly. People-to-people contacts and cultural links between the two countries predate the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1954. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), despite political changes witnessed by the two countries in the past 60 years, India and Bulgaria have developed a close, cordial and multi-dimensional relationship. The multi-faceted relationship between two nations has flourished based on continuity and mutual understanding and has progressively evolved into a binding friendship.
