New Delhi: Five people, including four children, were killed after the roof of a house collapsed following heavy rainfall in Habibpur village of Muzaffarnagar.
Two other children injured in the incident are undergoing treatment at a district hospital.
The incident took place late on Sunday night, when the roof of the house collapsed, trapping family members under the debris. A 52-year-old man and his four children lost their lives in the tragedy.
The deceased have been identified as Islamuddin and his four children, eight-month-old Zeeshan, two-year-old Ahad, five-year-old Alshifa, and 12-year-old Rukhsar.
Following the collapse, the administration reached the spot and carried out rescue operations to pull people out who were trapped under the debris. The injured children were rushed to the hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Uttar Pradesh Minister, Kapil Dev Aggarwal, expressed grief over the incident and said that he visited the hospital to take stock of the situation.
“A tragic incident took place in Muzaffarnagar. Late at night, the roof of a house collapsed, killing five people. The family has a total of eight children, four of whom died on the spot, while two others were injured. It is a very tragic incident. I also visited the hospital to take stock of the situation and enquire about the condition of the injured.”
The minister said the incident was extremely tragic and assured that the situation was being monitored. The collapse has left the local community in shock, with authorities continuing to assess the damage caused by the heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the monsoon continues to remain active across Uttar Pradesh, with widespread rainfall reported in several parts of the state. Since Monday morning, the sky has remained overcast, with rain reported in 10 cities, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur and Ayodhya.
Light rainfall that began around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday in Lucknow and Kanpur continued into Monday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for the entire state.
Continuous rainfall in the hill regions has also led to a rise in water levels of rivers across Uttar Pradesh.
