Mathura: ‘Katha Vachak’ Aniruddhacharya on Friday hit out at the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “targeting” and “insulting” the Sanatan Dharma, referring to his invocation of ‘Manusmriti’ during ‘Chattron Ki Goonj’ event in Pune.
Speaking exclusively to IANS, the religious orator and leader extended his greetings on the auspicious occasion of ‘Janmashtami’.
He said that the meaning of the festival has not changed, however, how people celebrate it has changed with time.
“Now, whoever gets time, they get involved in the celebrations in their own way,” he added.
Launching an attack on Rahul Gandhi for his remarks regarding the ‘Manusmriti’, he said: “If you don’t understand Manusmriti, then why are you getting into it? If you study ‘Manusmriti’, then you will get the knowledge of ‘Dharma’.”
Questioning the LoP, he said: Did Rahul Gandhi ever speak about triple talaq? Did he ever speak about the burqa or halala? Are halala and Triple Talaq meant for women’s respect? He does not speak about any of these issues. He only targets Sanatan and keeps insulting Sanatan.”
He urged Rahul Gandhi to read Manusmriti, saying that it has been mentioned in the ancient Hindu text itself to respect women.
Aniruddhacharya further said: “He (Gandhi) does not have anything to do with Sanatan so he will target and insult it, whereas it is in Sanatan Dharma that women have been given the status of ‘Goddess’. Are women worshipped in such a way in any other religion?…Someone should explain this to Rahul Gandhi.”
When asked about the appointment of Air Marshal (Retd.) Jeetendra Mishra as the first CEO of the Ram Temple Trust, the religious orator said, “It is good. Now that he has been given the responsibility, he will work with honesty. This is my hope and prayer to God- that all of them (the new Trustees) work with honesty.”
Regarding the ongoing row over reservation, Aniruddhacharya asserted that the system should not be abolished and instead given to the poor.
“As long as a person is in need, he or she should be given support. But after they have studied, started earning and become ministers, they no longer need that support. Now it should be given to the poor.Those who are below the poverty line should be given support because they really need it,” he said.
