Bhubaneswar: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Alumni Association has mourned the demise of former faculty member Professor NN Sarkar, remembering him for his humility, warmth and significant contribution to mass communication education.
In a condolence message shared on social media platform X on Wednesday, the association recalled Sarkar’s infectious laughter and the lasting impression he left on generations of students.
“His book on Art & Production was a tremendous contribution to the field and a source of learning for generations to come. The way he carried himself continues to inspire us to stay grounded, approach challenges with composure, and stay humble. May his kind soul rest in peace,” the association said.
Sarkar retired from the teaching faculty of IIMC, New Delhi, in February 2002. He had joined the institute in 1980 after working as a practising graphic designer for more than two decades.
During his professional career, he was associated with several reputed organisations, including advertising agencies and companies in both the public and private sectors.
Apart from his teaching responsibilities at IIMC, Sarkar served as visiting faculty, examiner and curriculum consultant at various professional institutions and universities. He also authored several books and contributed lessons for distance education programmes in his area of specialisation.
Among his prominent publications was Art & Print Production, published by Oxford University Press for higher education programmes in mass communication.
His work as an educator, graphic designer and author made a significant contribution to the field of mass communication education.
