New Delhi: Security has been tightened in and around Jantar Mantar in the National Capital in view of the Opposition INDIA bloc’s proposed protest over the controversy surrounding the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

Delhi Police and other security forces have been placed on alert. Police are continuously monitoring people heading towards and from Jantar Mantar.

Barricades have also been set up outside the ECI office.

A large number of Delhi Police personnel have been deployed in and around Jantar Mantar. Police barricades have been erected at several locations. Police are also monitoring people and vehicles moving in and out to prevent any disruption or law-and-order situation.

As part of the security measures, additional police forces have been deployed at sensitive locations around Jantar Mantar.

Police have instructed security forces to be fully prepared to deal with any situation. Necessary arrangements have been made to control the crowd and maintain law and order around Jantar Mantar.

“The police’s objective is to maintain peace and order during the protest and prevent any untoward incidents,” officials said.

Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been imposed in and around Jantar Mantar. Under this, restrictions may be imposed on certain activities and gatherings in the area.

The administration has appealed to the public to follow the prescribed rules and cooperate with security arrangements.

Meanwhile, earlier on Monday, the Patiala House Court granted bail to 17 students arrested during the protest at Jantar Mantar last month.

According to the Indian Youth Congress, the arrested individuals include independent journalists and students who were protesting and covering the issue of vote theft.

The police had requested 14 days of judicial custody from the court, which was opposed by the lawyers representing the accused.

The court has summoned a report from the DCP, New Delhi, and directed the preservation of CCTV footage from the Parliament Street police station.
