Imphal: Demonstrating a coordinated approach to national security and the protection of critical infrastructure, the Indian Army’s Spear Corps has launched a comprehensive two-week specialised training programme for personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deployed at the Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala.

A defence spokesman said the training programme, which began on Monday at the Agartala Military Station, has been organised under the broader framework of Military-Civil Fusion to enhance operational coordination, upgrade tactical preparedness and strengthen the security of the state’s key aviation infrastructure against emerging and evolving threats.

During the 14-day programme, experienced instructors from the Indian Army will impart advanced training to CISF personnel on a wide range of security-related subjects. According to the official, the specialised modules include Industrial and Critical Infrastructure Security, Vital Area and Vital Point Security, Quick Reaction Team (QRT) drills, Counter-Drone Operations and Threat Mitigation, besides other contemporary security practices relevant to safeguarding sensitive installations.

The joint training initiative seeks to combine the Indian Army’s operational expertise and combat experience with the CISF’s specialised role in aviation and critical infrastructure security, thereby enhancing the overall security architecture at the MBB Airport, the premier air gateway to Tripura.

“Modern security challenges demand a seamless and integrated response from all security agencies. By combining the tactical combat expertise of the Indian Army with the specialised aviation security mandate of the CISF, this collaborative initiative will significantly strengthen the overall defence and security preparedness of Agartala’s premier airport against emerging threats,” a representative associated with the training programme said.

Officials said the programme reflects the Indian Army’s continued commitment to capacity building, inter-agency cooperation and operational synergy with the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). Such collaborative initiatives are aimed at ensuring that frontline security personnel remain equipped with the latest operational skills and are prepared to effectively respond to a wide spectrum of conventional and emerging security challenges.

On completion of the training, the participating CISF personnel will resume their operational responsibilities at the MBB Airport with enhanced tactical capabilities, improved response mechanisms and modern threat-mitigation skills, further reinforcing the security of one of the Northeast’s important aviation hubs.

The CISF is responsible for securing most airports in the Northeastern region, including the MBB Airport in Agartala, which is the second busiest airport in the region after the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati.
