Kamal Nath Questions Gap Between Investment Proposals And Actual Inflow In MP

Bhopal: Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Monday questioned the state government’s investment claims, pointing to a wide gap between investment proposals and the actual foreign direct investment (FDI) equity inflow recorded during 2025-26.

The Congress leader said the BJP government had claimed that Madhya Pradesh received investment proposals worth more than Rs 30 lakh crore during the financial year 2025-26. However, citing the FDI equity inflow data of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), he said the state received only Rs 708.06 crore in FDI equity inflow during the period.

He said the figures raised questions about how much of the investment proposed for Madhya Pradesh was actually translated into investment on the ground.

“Is it possible that investment proposals worth Rs 30 lakh crore seriously come to the state and actual investment from them is not even Rs 1,000 crore?” Nath said in a statement on Monday.

The veteran Congress leader further claimed that Madhya Pradesh also remained behind neighbouring Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh in terms of investment inflow.

He said that Madhya Pradesh’s share was only 0.14 per cent of the total investment received in the country during 2025-26.

Kamal Nath alleged that the BJP government was focusing on events and publicity instead of creating an environment that could attract actual investments.

The former Chief Minister said investment proposals alone could not be treated as an indicator of economic activity unless they resulted in projects, capital inflow and employment generation.

“I have always said that investment comes from trust. Investment does not simply arrive; it has to be attracted,” Nath said.

The former Chief Minister’s remarks came amid the state government’s continued efforts to attract investments and project Madhya Pradesh as an investment destination.
