K’taka Govt Seeks Details Of Residents Stranded In Nepal, Tibet Amid Flash Floods

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Thursday launched an emergency assistance initiative to collect details of residents from the state who are currently stranded in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) following flash floods, landslides and other disaster-related disruptions.

The Revenue Department has appealed to Karnataka residents who are presently stranded in Nepal and/or TAR to provide accurate and complete information to the state government. The details will help authorities identify stranded persons and coordinate rescue, evacuation and other necessary assistance.

The move comes in the wake of flash floods reported along the Nepal-Tibet border and adjoining areas, which have disrupted transportation and access routes. Landslides, road blockages and other weather-related disruptions have reportedly affected the movement of people in several areas.

The Karnataka government said the information collected would be used solely for coordinating emergency assistance.

The state authorities will work in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, the Indian Embassy in Nepal, the Embassy of India in Beijing, other concerned authorities and tour operators, wherever required.

The government has urged people to submit accurate and complete details to ensure that assistance can be provided without delay. It has also advised that one form preferably be submitted for each stranded person, family or group.

If a form is being submitted on behalf of another stranded person or group, the person filling out the form has been asked to provide their own details in the designated section. This, officials said, would help authorities establish contact and verify the information provided.

The initiative is expected to assist the state government in preparing a consolidated list of Karnataka residents affected by the disruptions and facilitate communication with central government agencies and diplomatic missions.

Manoj Kumar Meena, Relief Commissioner and Secretary, Revenue (DM), Government of Karnataka, issued the emergency appeal seeking details of Karnataka residents stranded in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The state government has emphasised that the information will be used for emergency coordination and assistance, with the primary objective of ensuring the safety and well-being of stranded Karnataka residents and facilitating their evacuation wherever necessary.
