Mumbai: The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested the alleged main supplier from Bihar in connection with the seizure of hashish worth more than Rs 10 crore, an official said on Thursday.

The breakthrough came after the Worli Unit of the ANC arrested a person near Bandra Terminus on August 17 and recovered 10.010 kg of hashish from his possession. The seized contraband was estimated to be worth around Rs 10.01 crore in the international market. A case was subsequently registered at the Nirmal Nagar Police Station.

During the interrogation of the arrested accused, investigators obtained information about the alleged supplier of the narcotic substance. Acting on the lead, a team comprising personnel from the Worli Unit, including SPO Kiran Wagh and officer Rohit Sali, was dispatched to Bihar to trace the supplier.

On August 23, the Mumbai Crime Branch team reached Raxaul in Bihar’s East Champaran district and, with the assistance of the local police, apprehended the accused near Motihari. Police said he was preparing to flee to neighbouring Nepal when he was arrested.

Further investigation into the drug supply network is underway.

In a separate anti-narcotics operation, the Special Operations Team (SOT) of the LB Nagar Zone and the Nagole police on August 22 had busted an alleged inter-state hashish oil trafficking network and arrested two persons with 14.2 kg of the narcotic substance, valued at approximately Rs 1.75 crore.

The accused were identified as 30-year-old Thalle Nagaraju and 39-year-old Nagula Narayana alias Kiran, both natives of Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitarama Raju district.

Police had intercepted the duo while they were allegedly transporting the hashish oil on a motorcycle towards Gowrelly Road in Nagole. Acting on specific information, officers had conducted vehicle checks at Gowrelly X Road and stopped their motorcycle.

The police recovered 14 packets containing a black-coloured substance, weighing around 14.2 kg in total. Two mobile phones, the motorcycle and Rs 2,500 in cash were also seized.
