Jaipur: The southwest monsoon has become active once again across Rajasthan after a nearly two-week lull, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange and yellow alert for thunderstorms and rainfall in all 33 districts on Tuesday.
The weather department has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across several parts of the state over the next three days, bringing much-needed relief from the recent spell of intense heat. Rainfall was reported in several districts, including Jaipur, Udaipur, Alwar, Bhilwara, Kota, Chittorgarh, Dausa, and Sikar, on Monday.
In Jaipur, showers that began late Monday evening continued intermittently till Tuesday morning, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures. During the past 24 hours, Todabhim in Karauli district recorded the highest rainfall at 32 mm. However, overnight rain intensified in Sikar, where several areas witnessed severe waterlogging.
According to rainfall data, Sikar Rural recorded 119 mm, Dhod 116 mm, while Palsana received 42 mm, Reengus 45 mm, and Laxmangarh 38 mm.
Water accumulated up to four feet on parts of Nawalgarh Road, disrupting normal traffic.
Dense cloud cover continued over the district on Tuesday morning, with intermittent showers still being reported.
The IMD said the monsoon trough has returned to its normal position, allowing moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal to become active over eastern and northeastern Rajasthan. As a result, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected on Tuesday in parts of the Kota Division, Jaipur Division, Bharatpur Division, Ajmer Division and Bikaner Division.
From Wednesday onwards, the monsoon is expected to strengthen further across Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Jodhpur, and Bikaner divisions, with heavy rainfall likely in Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions.
Despite the revival of the monsoon, temperatures remained high in parts of northern Rajasthan due to the prolonged dry spell. Sri Ganganagar remained the hottest district in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 42.9 degrees Celsius, around 1.5 degrees above the seasonal average.
Bikaner also recorded a high of 40.5 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Jaipur experienced a significant improvement in weather conditions, with the maximum temperature dropping by nearly 3 degrees to 34.4 degrees Celsius following overnight rain.
Light to moderate rainfall was also reported in Kitasar village of Sri Dungargarh (Bikaner), providing much-needed moisture to standing crops and raising hopes for improved agricultural conditions across rain-fed regions.
With monsoon clouds once again covering large parts of Rajasthan, the IMD has advised residents to remain alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall over the next few days, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
