Tokyo: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday reaffirmed India’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for global investors and building enduring partnerships for shared growth.

On the second day of his official Japan visit, the minister began with an engaging breakfast roundtable with representatives of leading Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs).

The minister discussed India’s evolving investment landscape, the progress made in ease of doing business, and the wide-ranging opportunities emerging across sectors.

Goyal met Ryo Ohira, Managing Director and Head of East Asia, and his delegation from the investment management firm Neuberger Berman.

“We discussed opportunities to deepen investment linkages between India and Japan, and ways to strengthen financial and wealth management partnerships. India’s growing economy continues to offer expanding opportunities for global financial institutions,” the minister posted on X.

Earlier, he joined Ambassador Nagma Mallick at India House for an engaging evening yesterday with “friends of India”.

“Thank Minister Mr. Minoru Kiuchi, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Mr. Masanao Ozaki, State Minister Mr. Toshiro Ino, JBIC Chairman Mr. Tadashi Maeda, and JETRO Chairman and CEO Mr. Norihiko Ishiguro for their positive outlook towards India and the India-Japan partnership,” Goyal posted.

“We agreed to take forward the understandings reached by our Prime Ministers at the Annual Summit in July and work together to make the India-Japan partnership Next Generation-ready,” he added.

In his fireside chat with Nikkei Asia on the India-Japan Next Generation Economic Partnership, the minister discussed India’s growth trajectory as the fastest-growing major economy, and the priority areas for economic cooperation between both sides.

“I shared the story on the consistent work being done in the semiconductor, clean energy, digital, IT, infrastructure, and other areas. Japan, which has been a strong partner in our growth story, now has the opportunity to further solidify its presence, benefit from the massive manufacturing base in India, and build at scale,” said Goyal.

The partnership between the two nations continues to be rooted in trust, technology, and shared prosperity, based on resilient supply chains and deep co-innovation, he said.
