Result Of ‘Anger’ Against Mamata Banerjee: BJP MPs On High Voter Turnout In Bengal Polls

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs said on Thursday that the unprecedented voter turnout in the two-phased Assembly polls in West Bengal was a result of “anger and frustration” against Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee.

The polling percentage in the second phase of elections for 142 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal on April 29 was recorded at 92.47 till Wednesday midnight, thus taking the overall average percentage in the two phases to a record high of 92.85.

Speaking to IANS, BJP MP Ram Kripal Yadav said: “Public mood and sentiment are clear in West Bengal, but we will know everything after the results on May 4. Mamata Banerjee’s time is over.”

“Mamata ‘Didi’ has exploited and looted Bengal for the past 15 years. She created misgovernance and attacked and murdered many of our party (BJP) workers. The public is fed up of all this,” he alleged.

Yadav also added: “That is why the polling percentage (in Bengal) was so high. The high voting was a result of frustration and anger against Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress.”

“The people of the state will get respite on May 4,” he asserted.

Despite BJP receiving a clear edge in majority of the exit polls, the BJP MP said that he does do not believe in the poll predictions.

“I am certain that our (BJP) government will be formed in Assam, and there will be a change in West Bengal. There is no doubt about it,” Yadav added.

Echoing the allegations against the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal said: “For the past 15 years, there has been corruption, cut money, nepotism, poor law and order, concerns over women’s safety, including sexual assault in a medical college. People have become fed up with all this.”

“On top of that, there is dissatisfaction over the Women’s Reservation Bill as well,” Pal told IANS.

He added: “Women there know that on one hand they are unsafe in the city and on the other, efforts are being made to stop them from getting their rights.”

Sounding optimistic about BJP’s victory, Pal claimed: “There is now a strong wave for change in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee will lose and BJP government will be formed in the state.”
