Skyroot’s Vikram-1 Orbital Success Proves India’s Private Space Sector Is Globally Competitive: Industry Leaders

New Delhi: The successful orbital launch of Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1 under Mission Aagaman on Saturday has drawn widespread praise from industry leaders, who described the mission as a landmark achievement that validates India’s growing private space capabilities and opens new opportunities for satellite launches and downstream space applications.

In separate statements, the Indian Space Association (ISpA) and space analytics firm Suhora Technologies said the mission represents a major leap for India’s commercial space ecosystem and reinforces the country’s emergence as a global space technology hub.

Lt. Gen. A.K. Bhatt (Retd.), Director General of the Indian Space Association (ISpA), said the successful orbital launch of Vikram-1 was a defining milestone in India’s space journey, as it marked the nation’s first fully private orbital mission.

“The successful orbital launch of Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1 (Mission Aagaman) is a defining milestone for India’s space journey. By executing the nation’s first fully private orbital flight, Skyroot has shattered legacy boundaries, demonstrating that our domestic industry is primed to handle end-to-end space missions,” Bhatt said.

“We are equally proud to congratulate the pioneering tech-demo payloads safely deployed on this flight, i.e. Cosmoserve Space’s EMBRACE robotic arm for orbital debris removal, Skyroot’s own SCOPE and Grahaa Space’s SOLARAS S3 satellite,” he mentioned.

According to him, the mission proves that Indian private companies are now building globally relevant infrastructure for space sustainability and advanced Earth observation.

“The successful deployment of such complex, IP-heavy payloads prove that our private ecosystem is now building critical global infrastructure for space sustainability and high-resolution Earth intelligence,” he added.

He added that Skyroot’s emergence as India’s first space technology unicorn sends a strong signal to global sovereign and institutional investors that the country’s private space sector has evolved into a globally competitive and bankable industry capable of addressing the growing demand for small satellite launches.

Meanwhile, Krishanu Acharya, CEO and Co-Founder of Suhora Technologies, said the successful launch marks a defining moment for the entire Indian space ecosystem.

“This is a defining milestone for the entire Indian space ecosystem. Lower-cost and more responsive launch services will enable more Indian satellite operators to deploy and replenish constellations, significantly improving the availability, revisit frequency and timeliness of Earth observation data,” he said.

“Equally important, it lowers the barrier for emerging downstream and application-focused space startups to own and operate dedicated satellite assets tailored to specific industry needs,” Acharya mentioned.
