Bhubaneswar: Suvendu Adhikari has been elected as the Leader of the West Bengal BJP Legislative Party, setting him up to be the new Chief Minister of the state.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, appointed as Central Observer for the election of the legislative party leader, announced the decision on Thursday.
“I announce the name of Suvendu Adhikari elected as Leader of West Bengal BJP Legislative Party,” Shah said. The move comes after the BJP secured a majority in the state assembly.
Adhikari, a former Trinamool Congress minister who joined BJP in 2020, is now poised to take charge as West Bengal’s next CM.
Adhikari contested and won both Bhabanipur and Nandigram seats in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections. He defeated CM Mamata Banerjee by 15,105+ votes in Bhabanipu
