Kolkata: As the second phase of the West Bengal polls is underway, BJP candidate from Kharagpur Sadar, Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday said that people are fully prepared to step out and exercise their right to vote. He further noted that while voter turnout in Kolkata and nearby areas earlier hovered around 60 to 65 per cent, it is expected to rise to 85-90 per cent this time.

Speaking to reporters, Ghosh said, “People are fully prepared to go out and vote this time. Earlier, voting in Kolkata and nearby areas used to be around 60 to 65 per cent, but now the turnout is expected to reach 85-90 per cent.”

Voting for the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections has commenced, with crowds visible at polling stations since 7.00 a.m.

Expressing confidence in the deployment of central forces, Ghosh stated that, as in every election, central forces have been stationed this time as well, and the Election Commission of India is closely monitoring their deployment. He added that the Commission’s strict measures have boosted public confidence, raising hopes that the voting process will be more transparent and fair.

Reflecting on the BJP’s political journey, Ghosh said the party has been active for the past 70-75 years and has gradually strengthened its presence across the country.

“There is nothing like do or die for us. We have been involved in politics for 70-75 years and have steadily progressed. Today, we have governments in 21 states. Narendra Modi has been elected Prime Minister three times. Our struggle continues and is not limited to any single election. We are here for social transformation,” he said.

BJP candidate Arjun Singh from the Noapara Assembly constituency said he would cast his vote before touring his constituency. He expressed hope that the second phase of voting would remain as peaceful as the first. While he mentioned an incident at Booth No. 238 where a camera cable was severed, he added that the issue was resolved immediately.

Singh asserted that Bengal is moving towards change and that the public is well aware. He also appealed to the Election Commission to discharge its responsibilities effectively. Furthermore, he noted that the potential for violence in Bengal’s elections remains a concern, and if the process remains peaceful this time, it would be a positive sign.

Meanwhile, Pawan Singh, the BJP candidate from the Bhatpara seat, expressed satisfaction after casting his vote. He said voting has proceeded peacefully so far and urged voters to turn out in large numbers.
