Srinagar: Thousands of people participated in Tiranga Yatras across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, carrying the national flag and expressing patriotic fervour ahead of Independence Day.

Mega rallies were organised in Anantnag, Bandipora and Srinagar, bringing together students, residents, public representatives, police personnel and officials.

Earlier, in the morning, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the Tiranga Yatra from Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar. He said the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign has evolved into a festival of people’s consciousness and a tradition of national love, calling upon people to keep the spirit of the Tricolour high not only on rooftops, but also in their thoughts, character and actions.

“A truly historic day! Proud to join the Tiranga Yatra and address the public in Srinagar today. On this sacred soil, the Tricolour is flying high as India’s living conscience and Vande Mataram echoes as its immortal voice. It embodies our shared strength, unity, and unwavering patriotism,” he said.

In Anantnag, the district administration organised a mega Tiranga Yatra as part of the campaign, with thousands of participants carrying the Tricolour through the district. The event was aimed at encouraging citizens to participate in Independence Day celebrations and strengthen the spirit of national unity.

In Bandipora, a mega Tiranga Rally was held from the Mini Secretariat to the Sports Stadium, drawing participation from thousands of students and local residents. Public representatives, J&K Police personnel and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel also joined the rally. A student participating in the event said, “Today, a Tiranga Rally is being held from the DC Office to SK Stadium in Bandipora.”

In Srinagar, Waqf Board Chairperson Darakhshan Andrabi highlighted the enthusiastic participation of people from across Kashmir in the Tiranga Rally.

She said, “Today, the Tiranga Rally was held here under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, with people from across Kashmir, especially children from all districts of Kashmir and bureaucrats, participating. The Tricolour is not just being waved in people’s hands; you can see the enthusiasm and passion in everyone’s hearts today.”

The rallies are part of the wider ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, an initiative launched to encourage citizens to bring the Tricolour home and hoist or display it as part of Independence Day celebrations. The campaign seeks to deepen the connection between citizens and the national flag while fostering a sense of patriotism and participation in the celebrations.

The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, launched in 2022 under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, has grown into a nationwide public movement, with Tiranga yatras and other activities organised across the country ahead of Independence Day.
