Weak Low Pressure System: Rain Likely Across Western Ghat Districts Of TN Till July 30

Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall across the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu until July 30, attributing the weather conditions to a weak low-pressure circulation prevailing over the lower levels of the atmosphere along the Tamil Nadu coast.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), the weather system is expected to bring moderate showers to districts situated along the Western Ghats over the next several days.

While these regions are likely to receive consistent rainfall, the rest of Tamil Nadu may experience light showers accompanied by strong surface winds.

Meteorologists said the prevailing atmospheric conditions are favourable for scattered rainfall activity across the State, although the intensity and distribution of rainfall are expected to vary from region to region.

The Western Ghats belt is likely to receive the maximum benefit from the current weather pattern due to its geographical location and the influence of moisture-laden winds.

In Chennai, the weather department has predicted light rain in isolated parts of the city on Saturday.

The sky is expected to remain partly cloudy, with brief spells of rain likely during the day.

Despite the possibility of showers, humid conditions are expected to persist across the city. The weather department also issued a heat advisory for several interior districts of Tamil Nadu, warning that maximum temperatures are likely to remain significantly above normal until July 28.

Districts including Vellore, Erode, Karur, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli are expected to record temperatures up to 4 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average.

Residents in these districts have been advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the afternoon sun, stay hydrated and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.

In contrast, temperatures across the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, as well as the Union Territories of Puducherry and Karaikal, are expected to remain close to normal for this time of the year.

Weather officials said they are closely monitoring the evolution of the weak low-pressure system and its impact on rainfall across the State. They advised the public, particularly those living in hilly and rain-prone areas, to remain alert and follow official weather bulletins for updates as conditions may change over the coming days.
