Patna: The controversy surrounding the removal and resignation of former PMCH Principal Narendra Pratap Singh has intensified, with Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar issuing a strong message against negligence and dereliction of duty within the health department.

Speaking publicly for the first time after the action against the PMCH principal, the Health Minister stated that the department would maintain a zero-tolerance approach toward negligence, corruption, and indiscipline.

He said that negligence, dereliction of duty, and corruption would not be tolerated in the department and that hospital inspections would continue, with strict action to be taken wherever irregularities were found.

Nishant Kumar announced that a high-level inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the entire episode. He said that Singh would also be given an opportunity to present his side before any further decisions were taken.

According to the minister, the principal was absent during his inspection of PMCH on June 23 despite being aware of the scheduled visit. He further alleged that neither prior information regarding leave was provided, nor were telephone calls answered during the inspection.

He added that the committee would hear his explanation and determine the reasons for his absence, but he was also aware of the visit and still did not reach the hospital.

Narendra Pratap Singh has maintained that he was unable to attend due to injuries sustained after hot water accidentally spilled on his abdomen. He has claimed that he attempted to contact senior officials but received no response.

Following his removal, he submitted his resignation and stated his intention to pursue the matter further.

The Health Department removed Singh from the post of PMCH principal and transferred him to Bettiah Medical College. Meanwhile, Geeta Sinha has been appointed as the Principal of PMCH until further orders.

The Health Minister indicated that surprise inspections of government hospitals across Bihar would continue in the coming days. According to him, the objective is to improve accountability, transparency, and patient services within the state’s healthcare system.
