Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, a labourer died after the roof of an under-construction hotel building collapsed at Mahispat in Dhenkanal on Wednesday. Four others were feared trapped under the debris,
According to reports, 10 labourers were engaged in the construction of the five-storeyed building for the construction of the portico roof. The labourers were putting the concrete mixture at a height of around 40 feet.
Shuttering which provides support to the wet concrete broke down while the labourers were busy working.
While some of them survived the accident with minor injuries, one died under the debris. Similarly, another labourer lost his hand with critical injuries on the body. A labourer also suffered a fracture in hand.
On being informed, local police and Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured labourers before shifting them to the district headquarters hospital.
Fire tender units engaged an earthmover machine to remove the debris.
