Bhubaneswar: The water level of Hirakud Dam has risen following incessant rains in the upper catchment areas. To manage the inflow, dam authorities on Monday opened 10 gates to discharge water from the reservoir.
According to reports, as of 6 am today, the water level in Hirakud Dam stood at 613.33 feet. The inflow into the reservoir was recorded at 2,10,429 cusecs per second, while the outflow through the 10 gates was 1,86,354 cusecs per second. Of the opened gates, 7 are on the left side and 3 on the right side.
Meanwhile, the released water has reached the Mundali Barrage in Cuttack, where more than 1 lakh cusecs of floodwater is currently flowing.
According to Dam authorities, there is no flood threat in the Mahanadi river system at present. Officials are closely monitoring the situation as rainfall continues in the upper catchment areas of the Mahanadi basin.
