Bhubaneswar: As many as 10 more gates of the Hirakud Dam in Sambalpur were opened today following a steady rise in the reservoir water level caused by heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas.
As per reports, a total of 12 sluice gates (8 on the left and 4 on the right) are currently kept open to manage the increasing inflow of water.
As per the latest update, the water level in the Hirakud Reservoir has reached 624.10 feet and is still rising. The reservoir is receiving an inflow of 3,86,272 cusecs, while the total outflow stands at 65,924 cusecs. This includes 31,930 cusecs through the spillway, 31,628 cusecs via the power channel, 247 cusecs for industrial use, and 2,119 cusecs through various canals.
The sustained release of water is expected to raise the water level in Mahanadi river downstream. The district administration has advised residents living in low-lying areas to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
