Malkangiri: Normal life was affected in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Friday in response to a dawn-to-dusk shutdown called by the district Congress unit.
While shops and academic institutions remained closed, the roads looked deserted. Numerous vehicles were seen stranded on National Highway No. 126. Congress workers were seen picketing and stopping vehicular movement at several places in the district.
According to district unit Congress president Govind Chandra Pan, the bandh has been called to press for their four-point demand, which includes the establishment of a blood bank in Malkangiri, appointment of doctors at the District health center, dialysis facility at the local government hospital, appointment of local candidates in different vacant posts in the district and immediate opening of the BEd college in the district. The bandh supporters also expressed displeasure over the erratic power supply and issuance of inflated electricity bills by the Discom.
Pan warned that they would intensify their agitation if their demands were not fulfilled soon.
